When our communication supports compassionate giving and receiving, happiness replaces violence and grieving!

What Is Compassion

Just as wisdom covers the intellectual or comprehending side of our nature. Like wisdom, compassion is uniquely human quality. Compassion is made up of two words. 'co' meaning together and 'passion' meaning a strong feeling. And this is what compassion is. When we see someone is in distress and we feel their pain as if it were our own, and strive to eliminate or lessen their pain, then this is compassion. So all the best in human beings, all the Buddha-like qualities like sharing, readiness to give comfort, sympathy, concern and caring - all are manifestations of compassion. You will notice also that in the compassionate person, care and love towards others has its origins in care and love for oneself. We can really understand others when we really understand ourselves. We will know what’s best for others when we know what’s best for ourselves. We can feel for others when we feel for ourselves. So in Buddhism, ones own spiritual development blossoms quite naturally into concern for the welfare of others. The Buddha’s life illustrates this very well. He spent six years struggling for his own welfare, after which, he was able to be of benefit to the whole of mankind.

If you have previously attended any training on non-violent communication, you are welcome to participate in our practice groups.

How would your relationships with your spouse, children, family, loved ones or friends change if you could vastly strengthen your ability to connect compassionately with yourself and others, as well as to resolve differences peacefully.
You are invited to find ways of becoming more effective, efficient and compassionate in your communication. Participants in the C.L.E.A.R. Communication experience will be given an opportunity to:
1. Find out what you want and how you can get what you want.
2. Learn to to communicate more successfully and create the right climate for success.
3. Increase your sensitivity to others and maintain closer relationships.
4. Open doors to hidden resources, improve your ability to concentrate, your ability to learn and pave the way for new possibilities.
5. Change your behavior positively so that you can handle negative experiences with a positive approach.
The C.L.E.A.R Communication experience is based on the work of Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, Founder of the Center For Nonviolent Communication (NVC). Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a process which can dramatically improve relationships by helping people focus their attention on empathetic understanding of others without compromising their own values. Even in situations of long-standing conflict or hostility, the NVC process can open new doors to compassionate connection and action.
"Through the practice of NVC, we can learn to clarify what we are observing, what emotions we are feeling, what values we want to live by, and what we want to ask of ourselves and others. We will no longer need to use the language of blame, judgment or domination. We can experience the deep pleasure of contributing to each others' well being."
Participants in the C.L.E.A.R. Communication learning experiences will also have continued support through bi-weekly practice groups.
